How to add and configure the Birthdays Widget on your Jira Dashboard

Updated over a week ago

At QuartSoft, an international IT holding, the team saw a need for a simple and friendly way to keep track of colleagues’ birthdays directly within Jira. This request sparked the creation of Birthdays for Jira — a widget that pulls birthday data from PeopleForce and displays it right on your Jira dashboard.

The result is a warm and lightweight feature designed to support team culture and connection, even in large organizations. Initially built to meet internal needs, the QuartSoft team is now sharing it with everyone who might benefit from it.

Key features:

  • Dashboard gadget: Instantly view upcoming birthdays of your teammates right in Jira.

  • PeopleForce Integration: Securely connect using your PeopleForce API key to fetch birthday data.

This simple yet meaningful tool is now publicly available on the Atlassian Marketplace, ready to help you celebrate your team.

Adding the dashboard gadget

  1. After installing Birthdays, you need to go to Manage Apps and open Birthdays Widget Admin. Here you need to specify the People Force API Key and click the Save button.

The PeopleForce API URL is required to connect external applications with your PeopleForce account. For most EU-based cloud clients, the default URL is: https://app.peopleforce.io/api/public

2. Go to Dashboards on the left side of the navigation. If you don't already have your own Dashboard, create one.

3. Click Edit and Add Gadget.

4. Search for Birthdays and click Add next to the gadget.

5. Now you see a list of upcoming birthdays.
