Employees may sometimes forget to clock out at the end of the day. This can lead to incorrect attendance data, overtime, and billing issues. PeopleForce helps you handle such cases by detecting unfinished shifts, notifying employees, and asking them to confirm what time should be recorded.
Configure forgotten clock-out handling in the attendance policy
To start tracking and resolving forgotten clock-outs, you first need to enable the corresponding setting in the attendance policy.
Go to Settings → Time → Attendance policies.
Open the required attendance policy.
Go to the Settings tab.
Find the Missing clock-out handling option.
Enable this option.
Save the policy.
All employees assigned to this attendance policy will then follow the forgotten clock-out flow described below.
How the system identifies a forgotten clock-out
If an employee has an active shift without a clock-out time and later tries to clock in again, PeopleForce treats this as a forgotten clock-out.
In this case, the system does not immediately add the tracked time to attendance, notifies and asks the employee to confirm the correct hours.
Notifications to employees
When a forgotten clock-out is detected, the employee receives:
a mobile push notification in the PeopleForce mobile app
an email notification that they forgot to clock out
an in-system prompt the next time they clock in
These reminders help employees quickly correct their time without affecting the accuracy of attendance data.
Handling a forgotten clock-out as an employee
When an employee with an open shift tries to clock in again:
The system calculates the actual tracked time from the previous clock-in.
It compares this value with the expected hours from the employee’s Work pattern.
The employee sees both values and must choose how to record the time:
Use scheduled hours - records only the expected hours from the Work pattern.
Use actual tracked hours - records the entire tracked period as worked time.
After the employee confirms the option, the time is added to attendance and appears in reports.
Until this confirmation is completed, the system does not create any attendance entries for the open shift.
